The Key Pieces You Need to Master Parisian Cool Girl Style

Guest post by Alison Goodman, marketing director Scottsdale Quarter

I don’t know about you, but when it comes to fashion, I have complete European Envy, which of course originates with the ladies of France. French style can be summed up in two words: effortless chic.

H & M – Black Camisole and Deep Purple Skirt
1
A black silk camisole, like this one from H & M, may quite literally be the perfect topper: it can be paired with matte black tuxedo pants, a short flirty skirt (this one’s also from H & M) and dark denim. Wear it under a black blazer, fur vest or moto jacket for winter. It’s a go-to staple in any Parisian’s wardrobe.

Express – D’Orsay Gray Flats
Express - D'Orsay Flats
French women wouldn’t dream of being uncomfortable, but that doesn’t mean they’ll sacrifice style. A pair of flat, pointed-toe D’Orsay flats from Express are the perfect shoes for walking all over town… not to mention, they’ll go with everything in your closet, from a mini LBD to slim jeans and a white button down.

Calypso – White Linen Shirt
Calypso - White Linen Shirt
Speaking of white button downs, this is another staple that every woman should have in her wardrobe. Dress it up by tucking it into a black pencil skirt or dress it down by half-tucking it into a pair of track pants. CALYPSO St. Barth has one of my favorite styles.

Dr. Martens – Fold-over Combat Boots and Planet Blue – Cigarette Pants
2
Another style staple for the French? Fold-over combat boots, like the ones from Dr. Martens. Create an edgy look by pairing them with a floral sundress in the warmer months, but be sure to keep them on hand for cooler temps. My go-to look is to pair these with black leggings, like the ones from Planet Blue, and an oversized sweater.

Sepora – Nars Lipstick in Heat Wave and Kendra Scott – Earrings
3

Another key to dressing like the Parisians is to keep your accessories simple, like with this silver embellished pair of studs from Kendra Scott Jewelry. The ultimate simple accessory, you ask? A bold red lip. My go-to shade of red is Nars’ Heat Wave, found at Sephora.

My Spring Must-Haves

Spring is officially here and the things I'm lusting over include...

ALC at Intermix - Crop Top
I'd pair this topper with a high-waist flouncy black skirt - perfect for work!

Planet Blue - Dusty Rose Slip Dress
I feel like this would be an every-weekend kind of dress, especially when a pool party is involved.

GAP - Leather Slip-on Sneaks
Because who doesn't want a pair of faux snakeskin sneakers? Comfy city and adorable with a bodycon jersey dress.

H & M - Gray Crossbody Bag
H & M – Gray Crossbody Bag
As of last year, it became mandatory that bags must be no larger than 6x6x6, but that doesn’t mean you have to forgo on style. Not only is this tiny gray bag from H & M the perfect neutral to go with every outfit, a crossbody bag is truly one of the best purse purchase: it’s hands-free, practically weightless, and will fit all your essentials.
GAP - Ankle Boots
GAP – Ankle Boots
The epitome of Cool Girl Style, a pair of ankle boots are a must, no matter what the season. My favorite pairs are from GAP and I personally love the taupe colored ones. The light tone will make petite legs look extra long (a positive for 5’3” me) and will balance out your outfit when you pair the boots with a flowy, floral sundress – my go-to combo when it comes to ankle boots.
LensCrafters - Ray Bans
LensCrafters – Ray Ban Sunglasses
If it’s a crime to love aviator framed sunnies, I’m 100% guilty – not only do I own five pairs of aviator Ray Bans, I’ve been eyeing this blue pair for almost a year. Aviators truly never go out of style and flatter every face shape, so if you’re going to invest in a pair of everyday sunglasses, these top my list. Did I mention I have five pairs?
H & M - Flower Crown Headband
H & M – Floral Headband
Flower Children, this pick’s for you. Okay, so it’s not Coachella, but that doesn’t mean a floral headband will look out of place at The Open. I recommend pairing this topper with denim shorts, gladiator sandals and a strappy tank top, but it truly will go with almost anything in your closet – mine almost always makes an appearance on college basketball game-watching days. How else do you make a sweatshirt girlie?
GAP - White Sneakers
GAP – White Sneakers
I know what you’re thinking – Jeff Spicoli called and he wants his sneaks back. While these GAP slip-ons are a playful nod to 80s fashion (no, not an oxymoron), they’re currently the most on-trend sneakers you can buy. I suggest pairing them with a form-fitting solid colored t-shirt dress – the perfect way to balance out the masculinity of the shoes and keep your look feminine.
